interjected. “If these two are as strong and
unintelligent as you claim that they are, what is
our first order of business? Setting a trap?”
“Precisely.”
“And how do you plan on accomplishing that?”
“Well,” began the woman, “with the way I see
it, getting them to come anywhere with us is child’s
play, but getting them to respect us is a whole
different matter. But it is necessary, all the same.
We need those two Warriors to feel as though they
need us, lest their strength become unmasked and
they determine their own independence. So we
need complete control over them. As Mages, our
intelligence surpasses theirs by leaps and bounds, so
we need not waste time in making them understand
how much smarter we are than they will ever be,
as those facts will become evident in a matter of
mere moments. What we need to do is fight them,
and in order to win the fight, we need to fight on our
terms and our terms alone. That means we need
an arena that is best suited for us and not them.
We need a battleground where strength gets you
nowhere and where magic flows freely. We need
to forge a place where the Numinous Morose is
found in abundance, and nothing less than that.”
“Do you understand how much time it will
take for us to make this place a reality?”
The hooded woman picked up a pile of sand from
the ground, and let it run through her fingers as it fell
to the floor. “Time? Time is not of our concern. For us,
time is a tool, not a resource. And what a grand tool it
is too! Only fools cannot see past their own arrogance
and impatience in order to see the true value of time.”
She clenched her fist, preventing the sand from falling
through, as she looked toward the hooded man with
an eerie, sinister grin. Then she loosened her grip,
and allowed the remaining sand to fall through her
fingers once again. “You know, mortals have this
