interjected. “If these two are as strong and

unintelligent as you claim that they are, what is

our first order of business? Setting a trap?”

                      “Precisely.”

“And how do you plan on accomplishing that?”

“Well,” began the woman, “with the way I see

it, getting them to come anywhere with us is child’s

play, but getting them to respect us is a whole

different matter. But it is necessary, all the same.

We need those two Warriors to feel as though they

need us, lest their strength become unmasked and

they determine their own independence. So we

need complete control over them. As Mages, our

intelligence surpasses theirs by leaps and bounds, so

we need not waste time in making them understand

how much smarter we are than they will ever be,

as those facts will become evident in a matter of

mere moments. What we need to do is fight them,

and in order to win the fight, we need to fight on our

terms and our terms alone. That means we need

an arena that is best suited for us and not them.

We need a battleground where strength gets you

nowhere and where magic flows freely. We need

to forge a place where the Numinous Morose is

found in abundance, and nothing less than that.”

“Do you understand how much time it will

take for us to make this place a reality?”

The hooded woman picked up a pile of sand from

the ground, and let it run through her fingers as it fell

to the floor. “Time? Time is not of our concern. For us,

time is a tool, not a resource. And what a grand tool it

is too! Only fools cannot see past their own arrogance

and impatience in order to see the true value of time.”

She clenched her fist, preventing the sand from falling

through, as she looked toward the hooded man with

an eerie, sinister grin. Then she loosened her grip,

and allowed the remaining sand to fall through her

fingers once again. “You know, mortals have this
