FICTION
Janus’s head spun to it’s younger visage as a
blue light began to form between his fingertips. All
at once - before the ball was even large enough to
fit an arm through - a sort of implosion occurred.
The small orb became nothing more than a large,
misshapen ball of feathers and flesh, a disgusting
crunching noise echoed around, and bits of gold
fell from it. In a panic the group around the orb
stood upright, grabbed their weapons, or stared
on in curiosity as the automaton - unflinchingly
- dug his fingertips into the edges of the orb and
forced it open. From it came the winged goddess.
“Isis-- Are you alright?” The last of the sand fell
from the beetle as he scurried over to the goddess.
There was a stifled groan as she rolled
over in his claws. Some words came from her,
however there were mostly incomprehensible.
“Oh dear-- come, come! We can take
her to the battlegrounds-- The fountains
there have healing waters.”
The automaton, eager to leave the sandy
place, tugged open another portal and slipped
inside. The two blue beings - the female first, the
male lingering and gazing over the wounded Isis -
followed soon after and Khepri, knowing little else
to do with her crumpled form, followed through.
--
When they stepped out, they were
greeted by the mangled crocodile, a corpse
with a stick, and a flying, buzzing man.
